Pension information for independent financial advisors
If you are an independent financial adviser (IFA), this page explains what pension information we can and cannot give you about a member.
You will also find links to scheme information, calculators and guidance.
Provide a letter of authority
You must provide a valid letter of authority (mandate) before we can discuss a member’s details with you.
The letter must:
- be signed and dated within the last 12 months
- include the member’s full name
- include the member’s address
- include the member’s superannuation number
- include the member’s National Insurance number
- include the member’s date of birth
If you do not provide a valid letter of authority, we cannot discuss the member’s information.
Accessing information about a deceased member
Any existing mandate expires when the member dies.
We cannot provide any information about a deceased member.
Annual Benefit Statements (ABS)
Members should log in to the member online service (Engage) to check if their Annual Benefit Statement (ABS) is available.
Only active members receive an ABS.
Get pension estimates
We cannot provide estimates if the member:
- is in active employment
- has already received an Annual Benefit Statement (ABS)
If there is no ABS available on Engage, you can use our estimate calculators:
- NHS Understand how much you'll get | SPPA
- Firefighters Understand how much you'll get | SPPA
- Police Understand how much you'll get | SPPA
- Teachers Understand how much you'll get | SPPA
When we may consider providing an estimate
We may consider providing an estimate if:
- the calculator does not cover the member’s situation
- the member is due to retire within 6 months
Some schemes may have service limitations. For example, we do not provide Teachers’ estimates during the summer due to high demand.
If the member plans to retire, they can submit a retirement application and request a quote before making a decision.
We cannot provide projections of future pension benefits.
Information we cannot provide
We cannot provide:
- pension savings statements to advisers or accountants (we send these directly to the member)
- annual allowance data to advisers or accountants
