The Scottish Public Pensions Agency recently received "Partner of the Year 2025” from Galashiels based charity Works+, in recognition of its successful collaboration supporting young people into employment.

This achievement highlights the meaningful impact of our joint efforts to support young people in gaining valuable workplace experience, developing confidence, and building skills that will support them into future employment.

About the Charity:

Works+ is a Galashiels based charity and they run an eightweek programme helping unemployed 16 to 24yearolds build confidence, develop employability skills, and explore career paths.

You find out more about the work they do by visiting their website at https://www.worksplus.works/

In 2025, 74 young people participated, with 85% achieving a positive destination - 44% going into employment and 41% into further education.

Scott Wight, Works+ Project Manager said:

“Over the last couple of years, our partnership with the SPPA has become a cornerstone of the Works+ programme.

The training team at the SPPA do a remarkable job of breaking down barriers; they take what can be ‘scary’ concepts like the civil service and pensions and turn them into relatable, inspiring career paths for our young people.

Naming the SPPA as our Works+ Partner of the Year 2025 was a highlight of our December celebrations, and we look forward to continuing this fantastic collaboration throughout 2026 and beyond.”

Debbie Trafford, SPPA Head of People & Place, said:

“I’m really proud of this award and of the work that the training team do with Work+ to connect us with the local community. Engaging with young people, especially those who might not have considered a career in the Scottish Government, the civil service, or pensions, is vital. It helps broaden opportunities for young people and strengthens the agency’s future recruitment pipeline. I’ve really enjoyed the time I’ve spent speaking with Work+ visitors.”
