Family benefits for your dependants when you die

As well as providing you with an income in retirement, your Teachers’ pension scheme also provides valuable protection for your dependants.

You’ll accrue ‘family benefits’ service throughout your membership and, when you die, your dependants could receive a death grant and pension payments. Dependants can include spouses, civil partners, nominated partners, children or other dependants.

The amount of long-term pension payable depends on the amount of family benefits service you’ve accrued in the scheme although you must have two or more years family benefits service to qualify.

Benefits also vary depending on whether you die in service, you’re a deferred member or your pension is already in payment.
